The Marangu Route is the only path on Mount Kilimanjaro with hut accommodation instead of tents. It is often called the “Coca-Cola route” and is known for being a bit easier underfoot.
This 6-day trek gives you an extra day for better acclimatization, which increases your chance of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m). You will hike through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the snowy summit.

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,870m) – Mandara Hut (2,700m)
Drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate (about 1 hour).
Register and begin your climb through the lush rainforest.
Arrive at Mandara Hut in the afternoon.
Dinner and overnight in dormitory-style huts.
Walking time: 4–5 hours
Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Hike through moorland with views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Stop for lunch along the trail.
Reach Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
Walking time: 6–8 hours
Day 3: Horombo Hut – Acclimatization Day
Rest day at Horombo Hut to help your body adjust to the altitude.
Short hike to Zebra Rocks or further up for better acclimatization.
Return to the hut for lunch, rest, and dinner.
Walking time (optional hike): 2–3 hours
Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Walk through alpine desert with fewer plants and wide open views.
Reach Kibo Hut at the base of the summit trail.
Dinner and early sleep to prepare for the night climb.
Walking time: 5–6 hours
Day 5: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut
Wake up around midnight and begin the final climb with headlamps.
Walk slowly up to Gilman’s Point (5,685m), then continue to Uhuru Peak.
Celebrate your success at the top of Africa.
Descend back to Kibo for rest, then continue to Horombo Hut for overnight.
Walking time: 12–14 hours
