The Machame Route is one of the most popular trails to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is known for its natural beauty and has good chances of reaching the summit.

This route is best for people who are fit and can handle a bit of a challenge. The trail takes you through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally to the icy summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895m). All nights are spent in tents with full support from our crew.

Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (2,835m)

  • Drive from Moshi to the gate and complete registration.

  • Start your trek through thick rainforest.

  • Reach Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Walking time: 5–7 hours

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp (3,850m)

  • Climb through moorland and catch views of the mountain.

  • Continue to Shira Camp for lunch, dinner, and sleep.

Walking time: 4–6 hours

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower (4,600m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)

  • Today is up and down to help your body adjust to high altitude.

  • Reach Lava Tower, then descend to Barranco Camp.

Walking time: 6–8 hours

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)

  • Climb the steep Barranco Wall in the morning.

  • Walk through alpine desert to Barafu Camp, where you’ll rest before the final climb.

Walking time: 6–8 hours

Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

  • Begin your summit attempt just after midnight.

  • Reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. Take photos and celebrate.

  • Descend back to Barafu, rest, then continue to Mweka Camp.

Walking time: 12–14 hours

Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

  • After breakfast, walk down through the forest.

  • Meet your driver at the gate and return to Moshi.

Walking time: 3–4 hours
