Mount Meru is a beautiful mountain located inside Arusha National Park, standing at 4,566 meters. It is perfect for those who want a shorter hike or want to prepare for Kilimanjaro. The 3-day trek is more challenging because of the faster pace but is great for fit hikers who want a quick adventure.

You will walk through forest, grasslands, and rocky slopes. Wildlife such as giraffes, monkeys, and buffalo can be seen along the trail. A park ranger will join for safety, and the views from the top include Mount Kilimanjaro and the crater below.

Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate (1,500m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)

  • Drive from Arusha to the park gate for registration.

  • Start walking through forest and open land with a chance to see animals.

  • Reach Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight.

Walking time: 4–5 hours

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570m) – Summit (4,566m) – Miriakamba Hut

  • Early morning climb to Saddle Hut and continue to the summit (Socialist Peak).

  • Enjoy views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru’s crater.

  • Descend back down to Miriakamba Hut.

Walking time: 10–12 hours

Day 3: Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha

  • Final walk down through the forest.

  • Return to the gate and drive back to Arusha.

Walking time: 2–3 hours
